Taking the Waters
A saltwater sea in the Great Lakes Region formed 600 million years ago during the earth's Paleozoic era left behind layers of mineral-rich salts in aquifers.
It rested undisturbed for eons.
And then, discovery.
In the mid-1800's, a search for oil tapped into a briny aquifer and found waters rich in salts and minerals. The water's therapeutic powers were uncovered. A local doctor's daily baths in the water cured one of the worst cases of eczema on record. An old, gimpy horse played near the water source, and was completely rejuvenated. More people bathed in the waters and found welcome relief for a vast number of skin ailments.
Mt. Clemens, Michigan became "Bath City.

Wells Galore were drilled. Mineral bath houses and hotels sprang up. People came from everywhere to take the waters.
The curative baths attracted celebrities and people from all walks of life. The baths were regarded as almost miraculous in nature.
